Mothers' Union
Mothers’ Union is surely well known to clergy and parish leaders in the diocese. With some three million members in seventy countries, Mothers' Union promotes families by:
- developing prayer and spiritual growth;
- reflecting on family life and marriage and its place in society;
- providing resources for practical action to improve conditions for families.

In this country Mothers' Union facilitates a network of parenting groups, provides a range of support for families, and produces resources on issues important to parents. Working in partnership with other organisations and ecumenical groups, it has been involved in campaigning and lobbying on such issues as parental rights and child poverty.
- Among a range of useful leaflets available from Mothers' Union, encouraging churches to enable children to become partners in faith, are:
- Children and Spirituality
- Children in Church
- Children and Bereavement
- Taking Children Seriously
- Switched On! – a pack to help families consider the role and impact of the media on family life
- Up to Speed – to help parents, grandparents and carers explore the implications of the current drug culture, with information to help them support young children
- The Good Practice Guide for Parent and Toddler Groups
- Mothers' Union has also recently produced Relationships Matter, a pack encouraging groups (in discussion, activities and personal reflection) to explore what they mean by relationships; to consider factors which influence how people relate; and to identify things that can be done to improve and develop their relationships with family, friends and their wider community. (£5.50) (There is no need to have a Mothers' Union group in the parish to obtain publications.)
