Clergy Families

  • The Society of Mary and Martha at Sheldon was set up specifically to provide care and support for people in Christian ministry and/or their spouses at times of stress, crisis, burnout or breakdown.
Some resources exclusively for people in ministry are:
    12,000-mile Service weeks
    Clergy Family Holiday week
Linhay Lodges (with the option of one to one time)
    http://www.sheldon.uk.com/

  • Care for the Family offers a confidential counselling service for church leaders and their families. Tel 029 2081 4067

  • One Accord offer free marriage weekends (or mid-week breaks) to clergy couples, at venues in Bognor and in Totnes in Devon.
Inter-denominational teams run Bible-based weekends, with an emphasis on the active work of the Holy Spirit.  The weekend is a good balance between talks and private time as a couple, and is designed to give clergy couples time to focus on each other and to enjoy their relationship. http://www.oneaccord.org.uk/marriage-courses.htm

  • Broken Rites is a support group for divorced and separated clergy wives.  Tel 020 8943 4688  or 0114 268 2980 www.brokenrites.org

  •  Two useful books on life in ministry:

  Peter Brain: Going the Distance
Celia Bowring: We’re in This Together
