The British Social Attitudes report, by the National Centre for Social Research, is based on research, conducted annually since 1983, into the views of 3,300 adults.
The annual report says Society in Britain has become far more liberal in its attitudes to marriage, relationships and same-sex partnerships over the last 20 years, and marriage is now viewed by two thirds of people as very little different from cohabitation. The report shows major social change around family life and "a widespread acceptance that traditional structures and life patterns are being eroded."
